It's back to school season! What does that mean for you? For me, it means more crafting time! WOHOOO!!!
As you aware by now, Cricut has recently released four new tools! YES, that's right! FOUR NEW TOOLS!
Here is a breakdown of the new tools (thanks to Cricut!):
Basic Perforation Blade - Create finely perforated lines for any design
Wavy Blade - Go crazy with Wavy Blade
Fine Debossing Tip - Add elegance with pro-level debossing
Engraving Tip - Turn any project into a keepsake
When Cricut launched the Maker 2 years ago, it made a promise to come out with more tools and materials, so that the Maker could grow with creators as they master new crafts. These tools are possible, and can be used only with the Maker, because it was specially designed with an Adaptive Tool System. This system brings together three major technologies that give the Maker professional class cutting versatility and performance.
To deliver on this Maker promise, Cricut is introducing even more tools that deliver on the Maker versatility promise and are part of the expanding Adaptive Toolset.
These new tools allow creators to utilize even more techniques, such as engraving and debossing, and materials such as metal, with Maker, further expanding Maker’s capabilities.
Each of the tools are part of the Maker’s QuickSwap Toolset, so creators everywhere can quickly and easily move between tools as they complete their projects.
We will be using the Fine Debossing Tip and the Wavy Blade for this project. I was so excited when I first heard of the new tools coming out that I had so many projects in mind! One of them being Thank-You tags!
Let's get started with this project! You will need the following materials to complete this project:
1. Cricut Maker
2. Cricut Lightgrip Mat or the Regular Grip Mat
3. Wavy Blade
4. Fine Debossing Tip
5. QuickSwap Housing
6. Twine
7. Glue Gun with Glue Sticks
8. Cardstock and Glitter Cardstock
9. Scissors
10. Hole Puncher (not pictured below)
First, you'll need to open design space and open the design that I have already worked on using Cricut Access images from design space.
You'll notice that there are two sets of circles. The black ones will be the ones that will be debossed with the word "THANK YOU." The yellow ones will be used as an underlay. Both oval designs will have wavy borders.
Under the linetype you can change the setting to the tool that you need to use. Since it's a pre-done project, all the settings have been configured for you.
On this picture, you can see that I have selected the word, "THANK YOU" and I changed the linetype to DEBOSS.
Now, you will need to send the design to your Cricut Maker. First, connect your Cricut Maker. Next, you will need to select the material, in this case, I am using medium cardstock - 80lb. Then, you'll load the mat. It'll also tell you which tool to have loaded. In addition, since we are using more than one tool, it'll tell you "additional tools" like the wavy blade that we will be using. The best part is that your Cricut Maker tests to be sure you are using the correct blade before it starts cutting, and tells you to change it, if not.
I am using a light pink cardstock and a bright pink glitter cardstock. You can see below how detailed the Fine Debossing Tip truly is! The Fine Debossing Tip adds a professional polish and elevated elegance to paper crafts by creating crisp, detailed debossed designs. Unlike folders, which lock you into a specific design, this rolling debossing ball, with a wider range of motion, gives you free reign to customize, personalize, and design with incredible intricacy. Make a dimensional wedding card, thank you card with your monogram, or add flourish to gift boxes, tags, and more. Creates a stunning effect on foil cardstock, coated paper, shimmer and glitter paper, basswood, and much more.
Next, load the glitter cardstock into your cricut machine. This time, you will only need the wavy blade. Your Cricut Maker will tell you to change the tool from the Fine Debossing Tip to the Wavy Blade. The Wavy Blade adds a decorative edge in half the time than a drag blade with a gentle wave cut for a wide variety of projects. To add a whimsical wavy edge to any design, this specially sculpted stainless steel blade is great for original vinyl decals, iron-on designs, envelopes, cards, gift tags, collage projects, or any time you need fabulously finished edges and stylish design accents.
Now that we have all the cardstock cut with the wavy blade and the thank you has been debossed with the Fine Debossing Tip, we can get started on assembling this project!
You will need to grab your glue gun so you can adhere the cardstock to each other.
Add hot glue to the back of the debossed cardstock. You don't need a lot of glue so just add a little bit!
Adhere it to the glitter cardstock. Add slight pressure so it adheres well to each other.
Next, you will make a hole punch so you can add twine through both of the hole punches. You will have to hole punch it again but on the opposite side.
Cut it to your preference of length. I am using the thank you tags for gift bags and also to wrap it around another gift.
Here are all of the Thank-You tags! The Fine Debossing Tip and the Wavy Blade are two of my new favorite tools! I was super surprised at how fast the project was completed!
Here is the final project! I love how it adds a very personalized touch to the design. I am looking forward to utilizing both the Fine Debossing Tip and the Wavy Blade on other Cricut projects!
